After who knows how long, I FINALLY finished my parsley sprig! I never want to draw a parsley sprig again! Note to self: Never use cheap drawing paper again!
Done with a HB, 2H, 2B and 3B. I don't remember if I used an F or not.
I hope you all like it, because if you don't I shall be very roth lol!
I know what you mean! I came to loathe my plum, and at times my strawberry, but I love your parsley sprig. Good for you, Caleb. Yesterday was so busy for both of us that producing our daily work was...heroic! Leaves, when done in detail in a little bunch can be so trying. You are looking at how the light hits, the greens seem to blend, it's easy to lose track of where you are. That's why so many artists only approximate them.
ReplyDeleteYou can make it easier by squinting at the subject until your lights and darks become more delineated for your eyes. Also, and this can be tangled and difficult, but defining your dark cast shadows helps the form really pop and help as a road map.
I congratulate you. I know how hard that was. But I love your drawing. And it's subject. Keep it up. As hard as that was, it trained you to see. When I am struggling, I have to say to myself, "Okay. Breathe. Calm. Squint. See. Draw."
Also, don't you just love drawing in pencil? I envy your rendering skills. I know in part it comes from the classic way you sharpen your pencils.
Yes, we are true heroes for making art yesterday! I was trying to find a picture to draw from in a hurry, and the one I picked out was not really good. It was extremely monotone and didn't have much contrast. I kinda used it as a guide and just winged the rest. It's not the most technically correct picture, but at least I made a picture, and that's what counts :D
ReplyDeleteI love how you put that. "Okay. Breathe. Calm. Squint. See. Draw." I'll remember it just like that.
Yes I love pencils! Oh, nonsense. You could render like that too. It's not that hard. I definitely think that the sharpening of pencils has lots to do with it.
Thanks!
Caleb- I know it must have been grueling but this drawing is beautifully observed.
ReplyDeleteBad paper can be frustrating, but it looks like you overcame the limitations of that pulp and transformed it into something beyond what it would ever have imagined it could be :)
Thank you! I shall never use bad paper again. I vow.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like it. I guess it isn't quite so bad as I thought.
Your words mean much to me. Thanks-Caleb
I tried to leave a comment earlier and it was accidentally deleted because I was having computer problems at this site...boohoo. Here is what I originally said in a nutshell:
ReplyDeleteWOW!! This turned out great. I fell asleep last night before you finished, so I did not get to see the end result. You made it come ALIVE! I know that paper was giving you fits, and you managed to give the picture depth. I am especially proud of you that you did such an awesome job considering that the picture that you used as a guide was a green, flat, generic 'clip art' type picture of a parsley sprig versus a real photograph. Job well done!Big Hugs!
Just dropped in to visit your drawing a bit more. I like it a lot, love the detailed veins. Very nice work.
ReplyDeleteCame back again. Really love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you love it so. Thanks!
